Digital Transformation may appear as an unreachable state of technological advancement, but in reality, it is not merely a concept. Although Digital Transformation is a popular term, not many who use it are fully describing the core of its application. Due to its crucial role in modern-day progress and development, this article explains the 3 important technological advancements that partly form the state of a Digital Transformation.
1. Automation
Automation enables tasks to be completed faster, with better accuracy. There are a few forms of automation. Although automation for physical tasks is the most popular, one of the most common forms of automation is for virtual tasks. The type of automation commonly associated with virtual tasks completion is Robotic Process Automation (RPA). This type of automation is able to replicate the work done on computers or systems without manual inputs by humans. RPA can be programmed to perform tasks on a system, including read, copy, crawl the web, store the data in a database, and compile data automatically and consistently. It improves the efficiency of information distribution and communication throughout the organization.
2. Artificial Intelligence (Ai) And Machine Learning
Artificial Intelligence (AI) consists of intelligence systems that work similar to humans, but at a bigger scale and larger data volume. AI systems can be designed for knowledge, reasoning, problem-solving, perception, learning, planning, and manipulating objects. In addition, Machine Learning can process huge amounts of information and produces outputs such as data classifications, solutions, and predictions. With Machine Learning, the system can be trained to pick up specific selected criteria and can improve as more data and information are processed. If many different branches and units of business all transmit and receive data on a daily basis, the collected data can be processed via Machine Learning to classify and make predictions for future operations. The more Machine Learning is used for these functions, the better the quality of predictions.
3. Big Data Analytics (BDA)
Big Data Analytics (BDA) enables analysis of data which are huge in volume, velocity, and variety (Debnath 2019). Large volumes of continuous, multi-sourced data which exists from many different business operations can be processed via BDA to produce data intelligence. From BDA, many insights on process strength and weaknesses, business performance and potential, or market trends and conditions can be discovered and leveraged to benefit the company. Intelligence outputs discovered via BDA can be utilized to improve current operations, business opportunities, and future performance.
These forms of Digital Transformation are only some of the many applications of powerful technological tools used in common business operations. Digital Transformation only takes place when improvements in processes, production, supply, operations or marketing, is achieved by using technology.
