The potential for Big Data Analytics (BDA) to transform citizens life especially in Malaysia is vast. People interact with government services every day. Society is eager to experience quality public service delivery and satisfaction. This smart, responsive and personalized feature is strongly connected with the use of BDA. Furthermore, BDA has great potential applications to solve key problems in Malaysia. These problems include:
Daily heavy congestion
Problem: The stressful journey amongst citizens especially during hectic hours in the morning results in waste of productive time and can be hazardous.
Possible solution: BDA to help citizens by highlighting optimum routes and the most efficient transport mode.
Recurring violent crimes
Problem: The rate of crime in Malaysia is likely to impact majority of the citizens safety and incurs costs to the public service sector as well as hospitals.
Possible solution: BDA to generate predictions around where the risk of crime is likely higher on any given day and provide insights for the population.
Hospital crowds
Problem: The waiting time to receive proper treatment in public hospitals are longer, resulting in additional stress and waste of productive time.
Possible solution: Utilizing BDA to implement telemedicine application to reduce overall hospital waiting time and improving hospital admission rates.
Nowadays, many countries are becoming more citizen-centric, and adopting digital transformation strategies to address a growing need to improve their livability and quality of life. Malaysia also needs more big data analytics projects development to deliver a strong and sustainable national strategies and opportunities for growth and improvements. Executing digital transformation is essentially the key for happier citizens.
