Through the years, artificial intelligence (AI) especially machine learning (ML), has contributed to many technological benefits for mankind. AI eases data processing and business decision-making. In many sectors of industries, AI and ML enables insight from large amounts of data in a short amount of time. AI and ML’s current roles in various industries will eventually evolve. Some of the emerging trends of AI and ML of the future can be predicted based on the current scene.
1) Explainable AI
Since AI processes data and produces output that is leveraged for operational insight, their functions in the future will likely expand. This means that the role of AI will grow from providing intelligence outputs for decision-making based on processed data. AI will next be utilized to provide explanations and reasons behind why the decisions were made by the machine. ML platforms will be expected to show clearly and accurately the statistics and attributes that forms the conclusion or decision.
2) Complex Built-in AI
In the future, there will be more advanced applications which will be adopted by people and businesses. These applications require higher levels of computational power and intelligence, especially when they are used simultaneously. Consequently, the race for the increased computational complexity in smaller mobile devices are highly likely among the main agenda for the next decade. In order to achieve this, the state-of-the-art ML system will need to be able to run on the devices, due to speed, energy-efficiency, and data privacy reasons.
3) Planet Earth AI
The increasing concerns around climate change and environmental impacts in the past decade have created a ripple of environmental-based actions. A lot of our planet’s conservation work has begun to leverage the technological resources of AI and ML. AI and deep learning can process a variety of rich climate data in large volumes, and enable environmental models to produce accurate evaluations and beneficial insights for environmental protection.
4) Autonomous AI
There are strong interests on the autonomous capabilities of machines in the transportation and logistics sector. Advanced AI and ML is the core of autonomous machines, since there would be a huge volume of receptor data to process for the robot, equipment, and automobile to function and respond on its own. Autonomous AI will also enable mass numbers of “transporter” machines to perform automation tasks harmoniously with each other. This includes drones, cars, and delivery robots.
These are some of the emerging trends of AI and ML for the future. Despite the growing socio-economic issues in various sectors of the world, the adoption and growth of AI and Machine Learning remains exponential.
